Journals new work books assemblage
Art is like a science experiment. I create a problem for myself out of curiosity then set about solving it through trial and error using my knowledge of form and balance. I combine the Ethiopian coptic style bookbinding technique with the spontaneity of assemblage.

I gather my inspiration by combing through antique and discount stores, not seeking out specific items. Instead, I dissect everything I see into its component parts and find those that fit my ideas or inspire new ones. Just like each answer gives birth to new questions, my creations spawn new ideas for my next project.

My books are the result of my fascination with strange objects and my love of the book form. The smell and sound of a book fill me with a certain calming satisfaction, the mystery of a secret place. I make objects that come from a hideaway, a secret cubbyhole that my inner self still longs to visit.
